$10,000 Prizes up for grabs at Patterson River Golf Club

POSTED ON March 22, 2018 @ 10:27 am

Easter every year sees the Patterson River Golf Club members and staff working hard to organise and run the Jeff Crouch Memorial Charity Golf Day in aid of the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. Now in its 24th year and raising over $423,000 during that time, the organising committee within the Club is hoping this year will be a record year. For the first time the Club has added a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one at their challenging 7th Hole. There are 3 prizes available to be won for up to 3 lucky golfers (amateurs only) if they can score a magic ace. The event is a major highlight in the Club’s calendar and is named after former VFL Umpire and Club member Jeff Crouch, who was Director of the Good Friday Appeal from 1974 to 1994. Jeff passed away in 1994 and, from 1995 onward the Club have named their yearly event in his honour. Each year all funds raised for this event go to the Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal.

Staged as an ambrose competition with both morning and afternoon shotgun starts, there are also numerous other prizes available to win. Teams with the best gross and nett scores and nearest the pins at the four Par 3 holes all win great prizes. There are also various raffles including the Club’s major raffle which offers prizes of a Leather Lounge suite valued at $5,000 and 5 other prizes with values of $3,000 down to $480.

Patterson River Golf Club is located in the famous sandbelt region of Melbourne and is going through a resurgence in popularity which is “bucking the trend” of many other golf clubs.

The Club has a newly appointed General Manager (Rob Horrigan – previously Assistant GM at Huntingdale GC) and more than 120 new Members have signed up in the Club’s current financial year. Club President, Paul Housiaux states: “The Club is in the best financial position it has been in for many years having recently finalised the sale of an unused parcel of land which was formerly used as a bowling green. The Club now has over $2M in a special investment fund and is in the process of finalising a new strategic plan that is aimed at ensuring the course and facilities are maintained and improved based on sound financial decision making and member approved priorities. The quality of the course (santa ana couch fairways and firm, true poa greens) has always been one of the Club’s biggest assets. However, for many years Patterson River GC has been somewhat of a “hidden gem” and many don’t know where the Club is located, how good the course is and what a great social hub it provides to members and locals (as facilities are also open to the public). That seems to be rapidly improving at the moment and the Club plans to be here for a long time yet!”.

For golfers interested in playing in the Charity Golf Day, entry forms are available on the Club website:- www.pattersonriver.com.au

The Club also has Membership options to suit all ages, abilities and lifestyles.
