Golfers will experience greener fairways at the Pioneer Valley Golf Course thanks to a new recycled water irrigation system at the facility.
The water conservation project initiated by the Pioneer Valley Golf Club with the assistance of the former Mirani Shire Council was delivered through funding from Mackay Regional Council and a grant from the Federal Government.
Recycled water is being pumped from the Mirani Wastewater Treatment plant via a 3.5 kilometre pipeline into a 65 mega litre storage dam situated on the Golf Course.
Construction of the new pumping and chlorination system was undertaken by Mackay Regional Council.
Water and Wastewater portfolio councillor Deirdre Comerford is delighted to see recycled water being used for this purpose.
“This is good for the club, the council and the environment,” she said.
“The Golf Club is an important asset for the Pioneer Valley community and for the region at large, so I am pleased they are now able to access the recycled water.”
Robert Craig the Greens Director of the Pioneer Valley Golf Club is pleased to have access to the supply.
“The recycled water means continuity of supply all year round, which is important to the club,” he said.
“Previous years have seen the golf course suffer through the dry months, with the course looking a little worse for wear during the last three months of the year.”
Councillor Comerford urges residents to follow in council’s footsteps and help conserve water.
“Think twice before using sprinklers on your lawns as watering grass is one of the highest water consumption activities.”
“Monitor your water usage by carrying out an overnight consumption test, to ensure you do not have an undetected water leak on your property.”
‘If we all play a part in preserving our most valuable resource, everyone will be able to enjoy it,” Cr Comerford said.
