The Eastwood Valley Masters 2012 will make its debut on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) from October 31 to November 3, 2012 as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of its holding company, Woodman Group.
The US$80,000 (approximately RM248,000) tournament will raise the number of ADT events to an all-time high of 12 this season and will become the second tournament to be played in Sarawak which is situated in East Malaysia.
The Eastwood Valley Masters 2012 will be staged at the highly-rated Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club which was designed by Nickels Golf Group Ltd of San Fransisco, California.
Eastwood Valley, which opened for play in 2005, was honoured as Tee Times Malaysia’s Top 10 Golf Courses by New Straits Times and chosen as one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world by The Rolex World Top 1000 Golf Courses.
The newest tournament is a welcome addition to the burgeoning ADT, which was launched in 2010 for budding golfers to enhance their games and earn Asian Tour cards with top-three finishes of the Order of Merit. The ADT will also be afforded with the Official World Golf Ranking points in 2013.
Dato' Sri Law Kiu Kiong, the Managing Director of Woodman Group of Companies, said: “We are proud and honoured to host the Eastwood Valley Masters 2012 on the Asian Development Tour later this year as it will be a gathering of international golfers in Miri.
“We are excited with this partnership with the ADT and we are determined to make it a great success. The tournament will promote Miri and Sarawak as a golf tourism destination and it will also help us to celebrate our 30th anniversary on a grand scale.
“Through our sponsorship of the Eastwood Valley Masters 2012, we hope this tournament will spur the development of golf in Sarawak. This event will also promote golf tourism in Sarawak and we believe there will be positive spin-offs from our involvement with the ADT.”
The introduction of the Eastwood Valley Masters 2012 will raise the number of ADT events in Malaysia to eight, making the country the largest contributor of tournaments on the ADT Schedule in 2012. The PGM-Sarawak Classic will also be played in East Malaysia in early October.
Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han expressed his appreciation to Eastwood Valley for the launch of the newest tournament on the ADT.
“On behalf of our players, I would like to welcome the Eastwood Valley Masters 2012 onto our growing Schedule. The ADT is enjoying a highly successful third season with a record of 12 events which is five more than last season and eight more compared to our inaugural year in 2010.
“The support from corporate Asia, especially in Malaysia, has been tremendous and it only shows the growing popularity of the Asian Tour and Asian Development Tour,” said Han.
“I would also like to congratulate the Woodman Group on their upcoming 30th anniversary and we are delighted the ADT will be a part of this momentous celebration,” added Han.
