Palmer Coolum Resort very much open to local residents, says GM

PALMER Coolum Resort General Manager, Bill Schoch, has reiterated the resort’s commitment to the local community and reaffirmed that the award-winning jewel in the region’s crown is very much open to Sunshine Coast residents.

Mr Schoch said for too long the resort’s beautiful facilities had been perceived as only available to in-house guests, but those times were now consigned to the past as the new management team continues to inject fresh life into the resort.

“I think it’s in the collective memory of many Sunshine Coast local residents that this resort was considered ‘off limits’ for many years,” Mr Schoch said.

He continued: “However, under new management we feel the resort has now matured. We are not just an enclave for overseas visitors and wealthy guests; we are open for everybody to enjoy the magnificent facilities and scenery here.

“Previously, you had to be a guest at the resort to use the amenities or take advantage of the activities on offer. Let me make it absolutely clear that this is no longer the case. In fact, we want the resort to become a vibrant meeting place for the local community.

“I want to dispel any myths that may still exist out there that the resort does not welcome local residents. We are open to all and we invite everyone to enjoy what this wonderful place has to offer.

“For too long the resort was perhaps one of the greatest secrets the Sunshine Coast had in its tourism armoury. Most people knew it was there, but had never ventured inside. We want that to change,” Mr Schoch declared.

And the tourism accolades keep coming for Palmer Coolum Resort, who recently won the 2012 Gourmet Traveller Best Golf Resort award. Now in its sixth year, the awards recognise the cream of Australia’s tourism crop and over 22,000 discerning guests cast their votes for this year’s honours.

They also collected a prestigious 2012 Certificate of Excellence from the world’s largest travel website, TripAdvisor, who said its travellers consistently commended Palmer Coolum Resort with the highest praise and that only the very best were awarded a Certificate of Excellence.

Mr Schoch said the awards acknowledged the hard work of his committed team and the bright future ahead for the iconic resort.

“Since we achieved full management rights we’ve been on the front foot and have the go ahead from the new owner to kick on and introduce even more resort experiences for our visitors and guests,” he said.

“Our live entertainment campaign is underway and we have invested in our magnificent golf course by constructing new cart paths to make the whole course an all-weather facility. The new cart paths will considerably enhance our golfers’ overall enjoyment of what was already a world-class course, but is now even better.

“There are many more projects planned for the near future and beyond. We are on a continuous improvement program to build on what has worked well in the past at the resort, as well as introducing new initiatives that will further enrich the resort experience for our visitors and guests.”
