Melbourne secures international flavour for 2009 JBWere Masters
The JBWere Masters will assume a truly international flavour with representatives from 19 countries set to challenge for the Gold Jacket at Kingston Heath, Melbourne from 12-15 November.
World #68 Jason Dufner from the United States who has recorded six top 10 finishes on the PGA TOUR en route to finishing 11th in the FedEx Cup represents an exciting addition to the Masters’ field.
Adding to the United States representation will be Sam Saunders. Sam is the grandson of the legendary Arnold Palmer and his professional debut outside the States is sure to attract significant interest.
The golfing family theme is also evident with the presence of exciting young Columbian prospect Manny Villegas, brother of PGA TOUR star Camilo.
Germany’s Alex Cejka is a proven performer who will enjoy the sandbelt. A four time winner on the European Tour including three wins in 1995, Alex is now playing in the States where he has enjoyed three top 10 finishes this year on the PGA TOUR.
The JBWere Masters affords some of the European Tour players a final opportunity to secure a place among the top 60 players who will contest the Dubai World Championship the following week.
Additionally, the competition to claim a place in the top 115 and exempt status for 2010 on The European Tour is likely to be equally tight. Some of the bright young talent of the future will feature amongst this group with the likes of Alejandro Canizares (Spain), Danny Willett (England), Callum Macaulay (Scotland) and 21 year old Branden Grace from South Africa all vying for success at Kingston Heath.
Scotland’s Andrew Coltart will be hoping for further glory on our shores as the former two time Australian PGA Champion returns to Australia.
The most recent Australian graduate to the PGA TOUR, local boy, Cameron Percy will come to the Heath full of confidence after finishing 8th on the Nationwide Tour money list.
2008 Australian Golf Writers Association Rookie of the Year and winner of the 2009 Selangor Masters Rick Kulacz has accepted an invitation to play along with young Queenslander Adam Blyth.
The tournament has a rich history of amateur participation and Matt Giles from Sydney who is currently at the University of Southern California will relish his opportunity to play.
