Marsden Golf Driving Range Modernises Operations With Tech Upgrades
A local staple for over three decades, the Marsden Golf Driving Range (QLD) is undergoing a significant transformation to meet the demands of the modern golfer. The long-standing facility has announced a suite of “forward-focused changes” aimed at ensuring its long-term sustainability and improving the user experience.
From Buckets to Blocks: A New Pricing Model
In a departure from industry tradition, Marsden has transitioned from selling individual buckets of balls to a time-based, hourly model. The new system offers customers unlimited balls within their booked window—a move that mirrors a global shift toward experience-driven sports.
The facility noted that pricing for time encourages “longer visits” and “more intentional practice,” while simultaneously helping the business manage bay utilisation during peak periods.
Digital Integration and Real-Time Bookings
Responding to frequent customer feedback regarding wait times and capacity, the range has introduced an online booking system. By allowing golfers to see real-time availability, the range has successfully reduced “walk-outs” and increased overall occupancy.
“While we are a smaller, standalone range that’s been part of the local community for decades, we recognised that standing still was no longer an option,” said Jon from Marsden Golf Driving Range. “Today’s golfers expect a more seamless, engaging experience, and these changes allow us to meet those expectations while setting the business up for the future.”
Bridging the Gap with Technology
As a standalone facility without an adjoining golf course, Marsden has historically faced challenges in attracting players looking for a full-round experience. The range has addressed this gap by introducing simulated rounds on well-known courses.
This technological upgrade has led to:
- Increased session duration as players engage in virtual games.
- Immediate performance feedback for serious golfers tracking improvement.
- Broader appeal for families and beginners through competitive, game-based experiences.
A Community Mainstay Evolves
The evolution marks a shift for Marsden from a high-volume “transactional” business to a social and family destination. By modernising its operations, the range aims to broaden its customer base beyond traditional golfers, positioning itself as a progressive leisure facility for the next generation of players.
