The Range at Country Club Tasmania Opens

POSTED ON August 18, 2025 @ 2:10 pm

Tasmania has added a bold new chapter to its sporting and leisure scene with the official opening of The Range at Country Club Tasmania. Positioned as the state’s first golf entertainment precinct, the new venue combines innovation, social connection, and all-ages fun, offering a model that reimagines how people engage with the game.

Located just ten minutes from Launceston’s CBD, Country Club Tasmania has long been known as one of the state’s premier resort destinations, complete with a championship golf course, casino, restaurants, and leisure facilities. With The Range, the property has expanded its appeal to a new audience, tapping into the global trend for golf-based entertainment that has already taken off through concepts like Topgolf, Swing Factory, and BigShots.

A Game-Changer for Northern Tasmania

The Range is more than just an addition to Country Club’s existing facilities – it is the centerpiece of a new precinct aimed at revitalising leisure options in northern Tasmania. Featuring a 28-bay driving range powered by Toptracer technology, an 18-hole mini golf course, and a dedicated clubhouse bar and restaurant, the venue positions itself as both a hub for serious golfers and a social playground for families, friends, and corporate groups.

Ross Hannah, General Manager at Country Club Tasmania, said the launch represents a bold step forward for the resort and for golf in the state.

“The launch of The Range marks a bold new era of leisure and play in Launceston,” Hannah said. “With its cutting-edge design and vibrant atmosphere, the precinct brings a buzz to the region that’s been missing – offering a fresh, fun-filled experience for everyone who walks on the green. It’s the beginning of an exciting transformation unfolding at Country Club Tasmania.”

Features Designed for Everyone

At its heart, The Range seeks to broaden the appeal of golf by making it more accessible, interactive, and entertaining.

  • Driving Range with Toptracer – Each bay features advanced shot-tracking technology, giving players real-time feedback on ball speed, distance, and accuracy. Guests can play individually, practice with purpose, or take part in interactive challenges and virtual golf games. With up to six people per bay, the experience caters to both coaching sessions and social groups.
  • 18-Hole Mini Golf – Designed with creativity and play in mind, the mini golf course provides a fun experience for all ages. From families and school groups to date nights and corporate team-building, the course blends traditional mini golf fun with a polished setting.
  • Clubhouse Bar and Restaurant – Recognising that golf is as much about the social experience as the game itself, the precinct includes a vibrant hospitality offering. Guests can enjoy food and beverages before, during, or after their game, making The Range a complete lifestyle venue rather than a simple sporting facility.
  • Coaching and Player Development – Professional coaching services are also on offer, ensuring that beginners can get a strong start in the game while seasoned golfers can refine their skills with the latest technology at their disposal.

Building Momentum for Golf in Tasmania

The opening of The Range comes at a significant time for Country Club Tasmania. The venue has already announced plans for a major renovation of its championship golf course, set for completion in Spring 2026. When complete, the upgraded course will complement the new entertainment precinct, positioning Country Club as one of Australia’s most well-rounded golf and leisure destinations.

For the Tasmanian golf industry, The Range is also seen as a key driver of participation growth. By removing barriers to entry and making the game more approachable, the precinct opens golf up to demographics that might otherwise never set foot on a traditional course. The combination of mini golf, fun-focused driving bays, and welcoming social spaces is expected to boost engagement among families, young professionals, and first-time players.

Part of a Global Shift

The launch also reflects a wider trend in the golf industry: the growing popularity of off-course golf experiences. In markets such as the United States, venues like Topgolf have introduced the game to millions of new participants. Australia has seen early adoption of this model in cities such as Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

By introducing a similar concept to Tasmania, Country Club is not only keeping pace with international trends but also putting Launceston on the map as a progressive golf destination. For an island state known for world-class courses like Barnbougle and Cape Wickham, the addition of a modern, entertainment-driven venue adds diversity to Tasmania’s golf tourism portfolio.

A Boost for Tourism and the Local Economy

The Range is expected to contribute significantly to local tourism, attracting not only golfers but also broader leisure seekers. As part of the wider Country Club resort, the precinct adds another layer of appeal to a property that already draws both interstate and international visitors.

The venue’s flexible offering also positions it as a valuable community asset – capable of hosting social gatherings, corporate events, and school groups in addition to regular play. With operating hours extending into the evening, The Range also provides Launceston with a rare mix of daytime and nighttime entertainment.

A New Standard for Regional Golf Venues

Ultimately, the opening of The Range underscores how regional destinations can innovate and compete with metropolitan centres by offering high-quality, experience-driven facilities. For Country Club Tasmania, the new precinct is more than a venue – it is a strategic investment in the future of golf, tourism, and leisure in the state.

The Range is open seven days a week, with hours designed to suit both casual visitors and dedicated golfers. Bookings and additional details are available via countryclubtasmania.com.au/the-range.
