One of the world’s most famous caddies will host a caddy clinic for all participating caddies at the 2016 BMW ISPS Handa New Zealand Open in Queenstown.

New Zealander Steve Williams, most famous for caddying for golfing greats Peter Thomson, Greg Norman, Raymond Floyd, Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, will be hosting a ‘Caddy Clinic’ during tournament week at the spectacular The Hills golf course on Wednesday March 9, 2016.

It’s a unique opportunity for caddies taking part in the tournament to get advice from Steve Williams during the one-hour clinic, where he’ll share snippits of his lifetime of caddying experiences with over 120 caddies from across New Zealand.

Williams will caddy for an amateur player in round one of the Pro-Am with all proceeds to go towards the Tournament Charity and the Steve Williams Foundation.

Steve’s looking forward to his second year “on the bag” for an amateur player.

“It’s great to return to Queenstown for this fantastic tournament with its outstanding courses and a very appreciative gallery,” said Williams.

“Last year’s caddy clinic was a huge success and I’m looking forward to helping the caddies perform to the best of their abilities and have a lot of fun too.”

Over 288 caddies are required for the Open with over 120 being sourced from around New Zealand by the caddy master for the tournament, Andrew Whiley.

“Caddies that take part in the Open, and especially those that attend Steve’s clinic, will not only have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but they’ll be setting themselves in good stead for those wanting to pursue a career in caddying,” said Mr Whiley.

Caddies travel from as far as Northland to be part of the BMW ISPS Handa New Zealand Open and many are returning for the third time.

Wellington’s Jaimes Wood – nicknamed Woody – caddied for defending champion Jordan Zunic last year and described the experience as “mind blowing”.

“The whole event was an unforgettable experience and it was great to be part of the winning team,” said Woody.

“I’m looking forward to returning in March to carry Zunic’s bag to hopefully help him defend the title.”

All participating caddies will receive an invite to the Steve Williams’ Caddy Clinic which will take place on the Wednesday evening from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at The 19th, The Hills.
