Nine-Hole Golf Course Listed for Sale in Former Hydroelectric Town of Poatina
A nine-hole golf course in the small Tasmanian town of Poatina, located about 60km south of Launceston, has been put up for sale by expressions of interest with a $500,000 price guide.
The listing comes as the Christian charity Fusion offloads its remaining assets in the former hydroelectric town, which was originally established in the late 1950s to house workers for Hydro Tasmania. Fusion purchased the entire village in 1995 to operate services for young people in need, but announced last year that it would be divesting from the town.
Local Club and Operations
The golf course features 18 different tees and is currently maintained by community volunteers who serve the surrounding district.
The property is being marketed by real estate agent Sam Woolcock of Elders Launceston, who highlighted the active local player base attached to the facility.
“It’s a nice little course, all volunteer run,” Mr Woolcock said. “They’ve got about 100 members and they’re pretty active. They’d like to stay there if they could.”
Buyer Interest
The listing has generated significant inquiry across the state as part of the broader sale of property in the town, which now has a population of around 100 residents.
“It’s gone nuts,” Mr Woolcock said. “Poatina is quite well known in Tassie, and you don’t often get to buy a golf course.”
