Japanese home building giant Sekisui House has won approval for a key element of its $750 million The Hermitage project in Gledswood Hills in Sydney’s southwest, with the premium golf course and driving range to include a new nine-hole facility — the first in Australia to be created by golf legend Greg Norman.

The new golf course, near Camden, is a collaboration between Sekisui House, Greg Norman Golf Course Design and club operator Wests Campbelltown. Construction is expected to begin in the middle of the year, with the opening earmarked for early 2018.

First established in 1987, Greg Norman Golf Course Design is one of the premier golf course design firms in the world, having opened more than 90 courses.

“Together we will be delivering a world-class golf course in Sydney. The Hermitage estate is the idyllic location to showcase my unique and wholly sustainable golf course designs while providing award-winning facilities for the residents and the local community,” Mr Norman said.

He reiterated his passion for developing golf in Australia. “This project will provide a wonderfully unique golfing experience in a growth corridor of NSW,” he said.

Toru Abe, chief executive and managing director of Sekisui House Australia, said the partnership with Mr Norman at The Hermitage was a reflection of the company’s corporate philosophy of boosting livability in its communities.

Since launching The Hermitage in 2012, Sekisui House has sold more than 870 lots, with the estate claiming a mantle as a top masterplanned community with golf course being built in Australia.

The Hermitage will feature 35ha of open green space, 10 parks, and two golf courses, including another 18-hole course, to be overhauled by Mr Norman, set over 120ha, as well as a new public primary school.

The Hermitage has a projected population of more than 6000 people living within 2000 homes. Completion is expected in 2022.
