Royal Auckland GC appoints new General Manager
The Royal Auckland Golf Club has appointed Robert Selley as the club’s new General Manager.
Selley’s appointment follows an international search, which resulted in a very high calibre short list of applicants.
Selley has a Bachelor of Commerce degree, PGA qualification and 20 years of General Manager/CEO experience at some of the world’s premier private members golf clubs, golf resorts and golf estates. Over an extended period, he has established a proven track record of achieving significantly improved outcomes for the clubs he has managed, particularly where there has been an ambition to position or reposition a club and bring about positive progress.
Selley is presently CEO of the Australian Golf Club in Sydney, a position he has held for the last six years. During his tenure there, the golf course, club house and amenities have received a significant upgrade. Membership levels are now capped at AGC and the re-development of the golf course undertaken by Nicklaus Design has seen the last two Australian Open Championships being held at the Club.
Robert Selley brings other outstanding credentials to Royal Auckland. He is a PGA member with a low handicap whose previous experience includes executive positions with Nicklaus courses in South Africa and Australia. He served as CEO of Pecanwood Golf Estate a signature course in Johannesburg. He was later appointed General Manager of Pearl Valley Golf Estate, another signature course near Capetown.
Under his leadership, each of these golf courses was extremely well managed, highly rated and received much acclaim from members and the media alike. In all instances, member satisfaction levels were high.
Selley’s other senior positions held include General Manager of the River Club in Johannesburg and Troon Golf Club Management in Sydney.
Selley is a past Vice Chairman of the PGA of South Africa, and is currently a Director on the Board of the Golf Managers Association (NSW), a member of the PGA of Australia and a member of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA). He is also immediate past Vice Commodore of Sydney Harbour’s premier sailing club.
Robert Selley will start commencement in late July.
