Residents vow to fight re-zoning of Peregian Springs golf course land
A BID to rezone two key parcel of land at Peregian Springs from sport and recreation to residential would set a precedent if approved which would make development possible anywhere on the Sunshine Coast, protesters say.
Submissions close Friday on a proposal by Aveo to have two parcels of Peregian Springs Golf Course – Lakeside Drive and Greenside Drive – rezoned for residential development.
An online petition against the bid has attracted more than 600 signatures.
Greg Smith, a spokesman for the Peregian Springs Supporters Group said more than 300 formal submissions of objection would be lodged by the cut-off.
Mr Smith said while the proposed rezoning involved only a 1.06ha parcel of land claimed by the developer to be only 1.8% of the golf course parcel, it contained some of the best vegetation and would destroy the amenity of residents who had paid a premium for golf course frontage properties.
