Greg Norman-designed Tasmanian golf course dream still alive with council meeting stakeholders

DREAMS of a Greg Norman-designed golf course with a residential development in Triabunna are still being pursued with vigour, confidential documents show.

The Solis Golf Course on the state’s East Coast was expected to transform the fortunes of the former forestry town of Triabunna.

In 2014 the State Government had committed $3 million and Glamorgan Spring Bay Council had committed $3 million and was asking the Federal Government to also commit $3 million.

The project was snubbed in late 2015 during a regional grants process.

At the time Glamorgan Spring Bay Mayor Michael Kent said it was almost “start again” for the project that again failed to get any love from Federal candidates during the July election.

“It is very disappointing to say the least for the municipality,” he said.

But new documents marked “strictly confidential” show that the council’s general manager David Metcalf has had almost a dozen meetings about the project in recent months with various stakeholders, including three meetings with the project’s proponents.
