SEEKING: Golf Course Superintendent – Sandy Creek Golf Club

Established in 1904, the Sandy Creek Golf Club is located in the World famous Barossa Valley wine region, just 50 minutes from the Adelaide CBD.

Named 2016 Regional Club of the Year, the 18-hole par 72 course (6095 metres) provides the complete golfing experience, with manicured greens, lush fairways and several holes featuring well positioned water hazards and bunkers.

The Sandy Creek Golf Club is undergoing an exciting period of development and currently has a vacancy for a qualified and passionate person to join the team in the role of Superintendent.This an outstanding opportunity for an existing Superintendent or experienced Greenkeeper to join the team and make their mark on the Barossa’s most prestigious golf course.

The ideal candidate will take ownership of managing the course and thrive on driving new projects and delivering on-going improvements to the well-established layout. A passion for golf and strong leadership skills to develop and encourage your team are essential.

This exciting and challenging role will provide plenty of scope for creative expression, with the opportunity to take the course to the next level, working alongside a young and progressive team who share the same common goal.

The successful applicant should have experience in all aspects of turf management and enjoy driving change to maximise the potential of their staff and the course. Strong leadership and time management skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate openly and honestly with members, staff, management and Club Committee.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare detailed short and long term programs for the ongoing development and maintenance of the course.
  • Manage all programs and work performed with the objective of presenting the course in the best possible condition for the members and visitors.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of developments in turf maintenance and treatments
  • Oversee the management, maintenance and operation of all plant, machinery, electric pumping and irrigation systems
  • Assist with the preparation of annual operating and capital expenditure budgets and manage expenditure to ensure costs are kept in line with these budgets
  • Maintain daily records of work performed
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures
  • Purchase the necessary goods and services for the development and maintenance of the course, ensuring the most favourable terms for the Club are achieved
  • WHS and environmental compliance
  • Manage all staff under your control to ensure that their performance is continuously improved through training and development, delegation of higher duties, performance management, coaching and counselling
  • Oversee the preparation of leave schedules, work rosters, labour allocation and employee timesheets
  • Contribute to relevant Golf Course Superintendents organisations and remain up to date with industry developments

 
The successful applicant will possess the following skills & attributes:

  • Relevant experience as a Course Superintendent or senior Greenkeeper
  • Degree/Certificate in Turf Management (or related field)
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Sound Computer and IT skills
  • Experience with Toro Lynx Central Control System (desired)
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Practical mechanical knowledge (desired)
  • A genuine passion for green keeping and golf
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Energetic, honest and reliable with a commitment to contributing to team culture
