Vic Government to ensure golf participation remains an economy driver
GOLF has proved a huge driver of jobs and the economy and the state government intends to keep it that way.
A planning strategy released by the Andrews Government aims to ensure the future of the sport.
The discussion paper assesses the values of golf courses, identifies the range of benefits and outlines a planning framework for golf course land development proposals.
Minister for Planning Richard Wynne and Minister for Sport John Eren released the discussion paper, Planning for Golf in Victoria, yesterday.
Mr Wynne said: “This process will help us to understand how golf clubs can redevelop their land in a manner that benefits both the club and the surrounding community.”
Golf is played by more than 300,000 Victorians and makes an $849 million contribution to the economy, supporting 6900 jobs.
Golf clubs and their members can complete a survey at engage.vic.gov.au.
A final report will be prepared for the Government to consider later this year.
