SEEKING: Royal Sydney Golf Club – Workshop Technician

The Royal Sydney Golf Club is one of Australia’s most prestigious golf clubs. It provides a supportive workplace that values hard work, talent, enthusiasm and respect for traditions.

What will I be doing?

Under the direction of the Course Superintendent and the Equipment Manager you will assist the Equipment Manager and also work independently in the repairing and maintenance of various electric, petrol and diesel powered golf course maintenance equipment. You will also assist in maintaining a clean workshop and maintenance building, a preventative equipment maintenance program and place safety procedures as a top priority.

The key tasks include:

  • Communicating any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment with the Turf Equipment Technician and/or Assistant Course Superintendent
  • Inspecting, diagnosing, adjusting and repairing mechanical defects/failures in various pieces of maintenance equipment on a regular basis
  • Prioritising equipment repair and maintenance work
  • Setting up and modifying new equipment as needed
  • Repairing and adjusting engines and cutting mechanisms on various heavy and light mowing equipment
  • Keeping maintenance equipment fuelled, oiled and inspected and performing related tasks as required
  • Sharpening of cutting cylinders and bedknifes
  • Setting and checking quality of cut on cutting machines

 
This is a full-time position.

What does the Club need from me?

  • A trade certificate or 3rd year level in mechanical repairs (essential) or similar qualification
  • Working knowledge of the general operation of petrol, diesel and electric powered equipment, the proper methods of servicing golf course/or similar equipment and the repair and adjustment of power mowing equipment
  • Experience in welding and metal fabrication
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession
  • Reliability, punctuality and an eye for detail
  • Ability to move heavy objects in a safe manner
  • Mechanical ability and the ability to use common mechanical tools
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with all other employees and the public
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Ability to assist in maintaining a clean and well organised workshop and parts room
  • Adherence to the proper recycling and/or disposal of various oils, compounds and other fluids (antifreeze, oil filters, etc.)
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, possibly a commercial driver’s license (CDL)
