POSTED ON January 3, 2019 @ 11:18 am

Gary Player Design has been selected to redesign the historic Delhi Golf Club in India. The prominent global golf course design firm is no stranger to creating breathtaking golf in a country relatively new to the game.

DLF Golf and Country Club was Gary Player Design’s first course in India, and in its few years of being open, has established itself as India’s premier course, hosting both the women’s and men’s Indian Opens on the European Tour Indian swing.Screen Shot 2018-12-30 at 16.03.25

The prospects to work on a historic course was attractive for the Player Design team, who also has connections to several historic clubs including Wentworth Club in London.

“The opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting improvement to Delhi Golf Club that will serve the wide variety of their members is our primary goal,” said Jeff Lawrence, Vice President and Senior Designer of Gary Player Design. “This is an exciting project to be involved with because of its deep history and the clubs willingness to implement exciting design features within this iconic setting.”

Delhi Golf Club’s scope is the redesign of all the green complexes and putting greens. The intention of the design is to improve the design characteristics of the green complexes while maintaining the integrity of the traditional and iconic nature of the golf course.

Gary Player Design will implement improved strategic elements as well as visual aesthetics that will seamlessly be integrated into the original design. Grass selection will utilize updated ultra-dwarf Bermuda grass while also adding improved technical elements such as added drainage and updated irrigation system.

We are honored and excited to have been selected to provide our design services to this iconic and historic golf course,” said Marc Player, CEO of Black Knight International. “Construction should begin mid-March with completion and reopening by October.”Screen Shot 2018-12-30 at 16.03.45
