Combined $8.5m Devonport development aimed at growing sport

POSTED ON May 30, 2019 @ 5:53 pm

The Devonport Bowls and Croquet Club, Devonport Golf Club and Spreyton Bowls Club will become the Devonport Country Club when the clubs break ground on a combined redevelopment of the golf course worth $8.5 million.

The Tasmanian Clubs’ current plan is to build a new clubhouse over two levels with a club bar, bistro and function centre, and the major development is aimed at attracting national competitions  and to encourage local residents to take up sport.

The build includes a new state of the art indoor bowls centre, which would allow bowling club members to bowl all through the year, as well as two croquet lawns, three outdoor bowling greens and upgrades to the golf course.

The project received $3.5 million from the federal government in June last year and a further $3.5 million investment in the 2017-18 state budget.
