At the Club’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), held virtually on Wednesday 11th November 2020 in excess of 80% of the voting members of Newcastle Golf Club (the Club) voted in favour of adopting a proposed new golf course masterplan designed by world renowned course architects Harrison Golf.

Principle living

The new layout will create sufficient space on the Club’s land for the Club to enter into a long term lease with seniors living company, Principle Living.

The second resolution to enter into a commercial agreement with Principle Living was also favoured by in excess of 80% of the Club’s voting membership at the EGM.

The Club has been in talks with Principle Living (a joint venture between the McCloy, Sue Mann, and Stevens Groups) for approximately five years to create the mutually beneficial transaction that will provide financial sustainability for the Club.

Harrison Golf

Harrison Golf has been engaged to oversee the redesigned layout which proposes to utilise exciting rolling coastal sand dunes in the northern and eastern parts of the Club’s site.

The new layout will create a six hectare development site along the Club’s Nelson Bay Rd frontage which will be used to develop a seniors living village by Principle Living. Council and State development approval processes are still required to successfully realise the transaction, with course works estimated to commence as early as mid-2022, and taking an estimated 18-24 months to complete. Following course construction completion, construction will commence on the senior living village.

Commenting on last night’s member approval, the Club’s General Manager Christian Gillott said “this is a significant day in the Club’s history, with members essentially creating a legacy for the Club and it’s future members, securing the Club’s long term future and creating financial sustainability.

Those members that have walked the proposed new holes will appreciate the exciting opportunity the Club has to further enhance it’s profile within Australian golf, and doing so with such a minimal level of disruption given the scale of the project.”
