What’s Happening to Moore Park Golf Course?

POSTED ON October 30, 2025 @ 11:49 am

The Moore Park Golf Course is undergoing a significant transformation based on the Minns Labor Government’s draft plans for Moore Park South. The key changes from a golfer’s perspective are:

  • Shrinking the Course: The current full-size course will be significantly reduced to make way for a new 20-hectare public park. The new offering will feature a 9-hole public golf course instead of the current 18 holes.
  • Enhanced Practice Facilities: The draft plan includes a major upgrade and expansion to the practice facilities, proposing an expanded 90-bay driving range. This is a huge win for golfers looking to hit balls and practice their swing.
  • New Mini Golf: A mini putt putt golf course is also proposed, which will offer a fun, accessible option for families and casual golfers.
  • Other New Amenities: While not strictly golf-focused, the site will also include a new community sporting field, walking/cycling paths, picnic areas, and more.

📅 Timeline for Moore Park Golf’s Future

The changes are scheduled to happen relatively quickly:

  • Work Commences: After the current operating license for Moore Park Golf Course expires in June 2026.
  • Staged Opening: New facilities will begin opening before the end of 2026.
  • Completion: The full project is expected to be finished in late 2028.

🗣️ What This Means for Sydney Golfers

While losing the full 18-hole public course in such a central location is a significant loss for avid golfers, the project aims to balance this by improving other key facilities:

  • Focus on Accessibility: The new design aims to cater to more people in the rapidly growing, dense inner-Sydney population. The reduction in holes is a trade-off for creating significant new public open space and parkland.
  • Premium Practice: The expanded 90-bay driving range suggests a major commitment to high-quality, high-capacity practice facilities, which will be essential for inner-city golfers.
  • Public Consultation: The Minns Government is inviting golfers and the wider community to have their say on the draft plans between October 28 and November 24, 2025. This is the opportunity for golfers to provide feedback and help guide the final delivery.
