Stirling Greenlights Emergency Parking at Hamersley Golf Course Amid Visitor Boom

POSTED ON November 21, 2025 @ 12:46 pm

The City of Stirling is moving to address a critical parking shortage at the Hamersley Public Golf Course, proposing to spend $350,000 to construct a temporary overflow car park.

Demand has “exceeded expectations” following a $20 million redevelopment completed in December 2024, which introduced a popular new two-storey driving range. The 71 additional parking spaces included in the original project have proven inadequate for the sustained influx of visitors.

The city is proposing to create 50 new overflow parking bays on a section of the 10th fairway.

Course Changes to Accommodate Parking

To make room for the car park, the following adjustments to the course layout are proposed:

  • The 10th hole will be converted from a Par four to a Par three, with the tee relocated.
  • The 18th hole will be extended from a Par four to a Par five.

City officers confirmed these changes would maintain the course rating despite the modification to the 10th fairway.

Addressing Safety and Accessibility Risks

City officers stated in a report that the “sustained parking shortfall presents a clear and immediate risk to accessibility, safety, and utilisation.” During peak times, patrons are currently parking “illegally and unsafely” along Marmion Avenue and College Court.

The proposed overflow bays are intended to alleviate this problem immediately, particularly ahead of the expected peak demand during the spring and summer seasons.
