SHANX Mini Golf: Packing a punch

POSTED ON December 2, 2022 @ 5:35 am

Golf Boom plateau? Well, you’re not alone. There is no denying that the game of golf and our facilities have benefited over the past few years – but what now, how are you using the extra cash in your coffers? What’s the plan now?

Are you saving it for a rainy day? Or have you bought new machinery for the golf course, clubhouse renovations, or golf course works?

But what’s next? What happens when the extra pocket money you brought in is gone? The business model is the same, nothing has changed there – if you do things the same way you get the same result right?

Right. There are facilities that have divested, changed, innovated, and leaped forward into a new playing space. They have changed their revenue mix. They have introduced new demographics to their facility and ultimately, moved into a sustainable, robust business model.

But we know this as an industry. We know that our revenue mix is limited to Green Fees, Memberships, and Entrance Fees (they’re back, but for how long?). Retail and F&B, if you’re making more than 5% on F&B and 25% in retail, kudos to you. Most break even, at best.

So what now? How do you use those extra cash tickets for good, so that future Boards, golfers, and communities can benefit?

What about mini golf?

We know what you’re saying, you don’t have enough space for one. Think again.

What if we were to tell you that you could increase revenue, introduce new demographics, welcome families and change your facility in a sustainable, modern way with just 1,000m2 of space; that’s the size of a practice putting green. You know the one next to the first tee that is rarely used. That one.

Well, Pacific Harbour Golf + Country Club did just that. They converted a practice putting green into a vibrant activation space that tens of thousands of people will enjoy each year.

On just 1,000m2 the team at SHANX Mini Golf designed and constructed a bespoke mini golf course where the old putting green was. They were told it couldn’t be done. They were told it couldn’t be 18-holes and they were told that the only space to put a modern mini golf course on their site was 300m from the Clubhouse on 2,500m2 which would have required a kiosk to service the facility.

We proved them wrong.

SHANX @ Pac Harbour

We pushed the boundaries on our design and created a bespoke 18-hole, dual pin SHANX Mini Golf course for Pacific Harbour Golf + Country Club. We designed the course in the most efficient location for the client based on their vision, brief, operational requirements; and budget.

SHANX @ Pacific Harbour opened mid-September and since then the Club has brought into the Club an entirely new demographic, they have introduced an entirely new revenue pillar and increased existing revenue pillars of F&B and Retail. With no additional resources.

SHANX @ Pacific Harbour packs a mighty punch on a very small parcel of land.

If you are thinking about revenue diversification, attracting a new demographic or simply looking to add some fun to your facility, contact the SHANX Mini Golf team for an obligation-free discussion about your site and facilities vision.
