Sneak peek of Melbourne’s ‘new’ Sandy Golf Links
The Directors of course design company OCM, Geoff Ogilvy and Mike Cocking, has provided some insight to the major redesign of 18 holes at Sandy Golf Links.
The first nine opened in late January and the remaining nine holes are due to open by the end of November.
The Sandringham Golf Links Course Project is a joint initiative between Golf Victoria, Golf Australia, PGA Australia and the Sandringham Golf Links Management with funding support from the Victorian Government.
A public golf course
The Project will deliver course improvements, will provide high quality golf practice facilities for players of all levels from social and beginners to elite level golfers, and will help grow the sport of golf in the Bayside area – importantly, the course will remain a public golf course.
“We are cherry-picking the best bits of the Sanbelt really,” said Cocking. “The idea is that it is a Sandbelt experience for the public golfer.”
“We don’t have anything like this in Melbourne, not at this level, so it’s going to be really good,” adds Ogilvy.
Founded in Melbourne, Australia, OCM is the combined effort of industry leaders, directors Geoff Ogilvy, Mike Cocking, and Ashley Mead: a multidisciplinary team of experts that offer a unique lens on course design and construction.
