Petition: Help save the Northcote Public Golf Course

The Northcote public golf course (NGC) in Victoria has been earmarked for public space by the Darebin City Council, as the current management agreement runs out next year. The council decision means golfers will have to share the green space with other activities (picnics, walkers, music venue etc.) or total closure of the course.
During the Covid 19 lockdown, the Darebin Council allowed the golf course to be used by locals for exercise and as a recreational area. Now that the golf course has re-opened for golfers, some groups are campaigning to close the PUBLIC golf course permanently and open it up as parkland.
Giving voice to golfers
In response, a local group of players has now banded together to try and save NGC. The group has started a petition that they will present to the council, with more than 2,000 signatures to date. This petition will give voice to the golfers who played their part during the lockdown, didn’t play golf so that Melbourne/Victoria could drive down the numbers of people being infected with the virus.
The petition aims to show the Darebin City Council and elected Councillors, that the Northcote public golf course is an important resource for golfers and their family and friends to Darebin residents and visitors. It is an appropriate allocation of ratepayer contributions from among the many pastimes, groups, and services that the City of Darebin supports.
