Major renovation work has commenced at Queens Park Golf Course in Geelong
An expanded and modernised irrigation system will improve the look and quality of the Queens Park Golf Course, through a project being delivered by the City.
Irrigation upgrade
Works have begun on the major irrigation upgrade at the picturesque course, which borders the Barwon River and is part of the wider Queens Park sporting precinct.
The City allocated $743,000 in the 2020-21 Budget towards the innovative project, which will feature the latest software and control technology.
The course’s ageing irrigation infrastructure will be replaced with a more efficient and sustainable system.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher said the system will extend coverage to all playable areas of the course, including the driving range.
Greener fairways
“The upgrade will provide more uniform water application, helping to create lush, consistent green fairways that will have the course looking better and playing better,” Mayor Asher said.
“This is a welcome long-term improvement as it will improve the quality of all the facilities at Queens Park Golf Course and provide a much better experience for all members.”
The club will remain open during the works for regular competition and casual daily use by reverting to a nine-hole course.
When completed in early 2022, the irrigation upgrade will cater for the continued growth in golf club membership and green fee players at the Highton course.
