Road Widening Triggers Major Redevelopment for Oxley Golf Club

POSTED ON June 11, 2026 @ 1:09 pm

Oxley Golf Club has announced long-term redevelopment plans that include the sale of a 12-hectare parcel of land and the construction of a new 18-hole championship course. The decision comes in response to the Brisbane City Council’s Boundary Road widening project, which will split the existing course into two disconnected sections.

The council project will expand Boundary Road from two lanes to four. Currently, golfers cross the road approximately 300,000 times each year during standard play. Once the expansion is complete, moving between the northern and southern sections of the course will no longer be viable.

Land Sale and Consolidation Strategy

To adapt to the infrastructure changes, Oxley Golf Club has finalised an agreement with development partner LogiSPACE, a specialist logistics developer and fund manager. Under the agreement, the club will sell its northern 12-hectare portion of the site to LogiSPACE.

The proceeds from the sale will be reinvested into consolidating all golf operations onto the southern 48-hectare landholding. This southern site will house the newly designed 18-hole championship course and an expanded community recreation precinct.

The club stated that the decision follows years of planning and investigation. The Brisbane City Council first advised the club of potential road widening in 2016, and the project was officially reinstated under the council’s Local Government Infrastructure Plan in 2023, triggering a detailed review of the club’s operational viability.

Leadership Perspective

Oxley Golf Club President John Petrie stated that the club is taking a proactive approach to address the impact of the road upgrade.

“With a history of nearly 100 years, Oxley Golf Club is vital to the local area. It supports charities, hosts events, drives economic activity through local suppliers and markets, and promotes health with 70,000 annual rounds and junior clinics, reinforcing its role as a valued community asset,” Mr. Petrie said.

“The Boundary Road upgrade fundamentally changes the way our golf course can safely and practically operate,” Mr. Petrie said. “This was not a direction the Club had initially planned, but one it has needed to consider in response to ongoing uncertainty around the road project and its impact on the site.”

“So rather than simply adapting around that constraint, we’ve taken the opportunity to propose something better for golfers, the residents, and the region’s ongoing growth.”

“This proposal represents a major reinvestment into the future of golf and community recreation in Brisbane’s south-west, and we are committed to ensuring it is shaped through genuine community input as the design process progresses.”

Proposed Facilities and Upgrades

The proposed development on the southern site features a variety of new and upgraded facilities, alongside a dedicated revegetation program. Planned improvements include:

  • A new clubhouse and hospitality facilities
  • Expanded practice, coaching, and driving range facilities
  • Mini golf and family recreation areas
  • Wellness and health-related facilities
  • Nine illuminated golf holes designed to expand community access and evening participation

Next Steps and Approvals

The redevelopment proposal remains subject to planning approvals and ongoing engagement with stakeholders. Oxley Golf Club will be lodging a Development Application for the southern site redevelopment, which will provide a formal opportunity for public feedback on the mix of golf, sport, and community infrastructure.

Oxley Golf Club and LogiSPACE have committed to a thorough community consultation process, noting that the announcement marks the beginning of a long-term planning journey rather than an outcome. The club intends to continue working alongside the Brisbane City Council, State Government agencies, club members, and the broader community as detailed planning progresses.
