POSTED ON June 16, 2009 @ 10:00 am

Avid Sports Management, headed by Australian PGA Member James Cooper, has welcomed a new era of Golf in Fiji with the opening of its first managed world class golf facility Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course, Fiji.

The 18 hole championship course is the largest project of its kind to be undertaken in Fiji and has 15 of the 18 holes boasting magnificent ocean views of the Pacific Ocean and Natadola Beach, which has been voted one of the top beaches in the world by Forbes Traveller.

The course also boasts a state-of-the-art driving range, short-game practice facility, and a sophisticated clubhouse reflective of the adjoining 5-star Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa.

Managing Director of Avid Sports, James Cooper, said the opening of Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course follows the company’s recent success in providing strategic golf course planning, development and management services to championship golf courses in the broader Asia Pacific region.

“Our innovative hands on approach, matched with our thorough knowledge and understanding of today’s golfing landscape, has enabled us to create Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course as a world class facility that we are very proud to open today,” said Mr Cooper.

With diverse experience that includes the management of courses such as Hyatt Coolum, Pelican Waters and Laguna Quays and in his role in IMG, responsibility for The Dunes, Kennedy Bay and Moonah Links, James is no stranger to being at the helm of world class golf course.

Natadola Bay Resort Limited Chairman, Felix Anthony, agreed that Avid Sports’ thorough knowledge of industry, measurable results, strong marketing background to drive business and integration with tourism that secured them the management and maintenance agreement for Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course.

“There are few golf companies that truly understand the golf landscape in our region. Avid Sports understand that the success of Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course will require golf management solutions that respect the traditional game of golf and our country whilst creating and capitalising on commercial opportunities,” Mr Anthony said.

“James and his team have bought a hands on approach with solid expertise and experience to prepare the golf facility to world class standards and we are very excited that this course is ready to open,” he continued.

Avid Sports Management combines expert sports knowledge and commercial acumen to deliver the highest standard of golf facility planning, development and management; sports consulting; sports marketing and athlete management for professionals such as Australia’s LPGA player Sarah-Jane Smith.
