Collaborative tournament set to ‘reinvigorate golf’

POSTED ON February 3, 2017 @ 1:07 pm

The ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth will be played next month at Lake Karrinyup Country Club from February 16-19, and will have a truly global presence in its inaugural staging with the European Tour, Asian Tour and ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia partnering to tri-sanction the tournament.

The unique stroke play and match play hybrid tournament is now an official event on three of the world’s main Tours.

A total of 30 players from the Asian Tour and 60 players from European Tour will join 60 players from the host Tour – ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia – to contest the A$1.75 million tournament.

The ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth continues to capture the attention of the world with the Asian Tour, world number nine Alex Noren and a number of key tournament partners all signing on in recent weeks.

“We had a vision to create a tournament which would reinvigorate golf and a bold vision requires the support of fellow forward thinking individuals and organisations,” said Stephen Ayles, Chief Commercial Officer of the PGA of Australia, which oversees the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia.

“We are thrilled with the amount of interest the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth has been receiving and this will be boosted with our tri-sanctioning partnership with the European Tour and Asian Tour.”

Asian Tour Chief Executive Officer Josh Burack believes the tri-sanctioned agreement would provide the cornerstone for the game to maintain its expansion in the Asia Pacific region.

He said: “The strong collaboration between the three major Tours is a wonderful step forward for the growth of golf around the world. With the finest players representing each Tour, it will provide a truly cosmopolitan feel for the tournament and I am sure the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth will be highly competitive and entertaining.

“This tournament is also very unique due to its innovative and exciting format which will capture the imagination of fans and television viewers. We look forward to contributing towards its great success.”

A unique format in world golf, the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth will combine 54 holes of traditional stroke play across the first three days with an exciting knockout match play format for the fourth and final round.

Keith Waters, Chief Operating Officer of the European Tour, said: “We are delighted to join two of our long-standing partners in tri-sanctioning a tournament which further emphasises the success of our Strategic Alliance with the Asian Tour and our strengthening relationship with the ISPS Handa PGA of Australasia.

“The European Tour and its members are hugely supportive of innovative new ways to bring the game to bigger audiences and they are very excited about the prospect of battling it out in a six-hole match play format on Sunday, which is sure to capture the imagination of sports fans globally.”
