Golf tournament snags large slice of Queenstown Lakes events funding
New Zealand’s premiere golfing tournament, the ISPS Handa New Zealand Open, has won $120,000 from the Queenstown Lakes District Council in the 2017-18 events funding round.
The tournament is scheduled at Millbrook Resort for March 1-4 and has been fully sanctioned on both the Australasian Tour and the Asian Tour, with more than 30 Asian Tour members expected to compete.
The grant was the largest allocation from the $583,500 worth of grants announced on June 30.
The council currently commits $843,000 annually to events, inclusive of Christmas and New Year’s Eve events.
The latest allocation supports 17 major events in the district over the next year. The next funding round is in April 2018.
