Major upgrade has started on Fremantle Public Golf Course

POSTED ON August 18, 2020 @ 8:43 pm

Fremantlye golf course upgradeWork is underway on a major upgrade to Fremantle Public Golf Course, including a revamp to the existing clubhouse facility, three completely new holes and the introduction of a par 5 hole.

The project is initiated by the Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) High Street and Stirling Highway upgrade project, and designs and managed by Perth-based landscape architects Aspect Studios, including specialist golf course designer Richard Chamberlain.

Chamberlain design

Mr Chamberlain has more than 30 years of international experience in golf course design including at Royal Hobart and Royal Fremantle golf clubs. He is also responsible for the extremely successful mini-golf course at the Wembley Golf Course.

As part of the reconfiguration and upgrade of the course, the old clubhouse will be replaced with a new clubhouse, café, and community facility servicing both the golf course and neighbouring Booyeembara Park.

The Layout

The planned new nine-hole, par 34 layout includes a new opening hole running parallel to Montreal Street from the existing chipping green to the existing clubhouse, plus a challenging new par 5 hole, while also retaining the course’s signature finishing hole. The works will also include a renewed irrigation system, new cart paths and renewed course furniture.

The revamped course is expected to reopen in May 2021, however, the City of Fremantle is hopeful there may be an opportunity to reopen the driving range earlier. The new clubhouse is due for completion in January 2022.
