New 18th and Putting Green Complex now open at Mornington Golf Club

POSTED ON June 19, 2019 @ 4:49 pm

In August 2018 Mornington Golf Club commenced the next stage in their exciting long term Master Plan.  Stage 1 was complete with the construction of their magnificent new Par 3 perched on the cliffs of Port Phillip Bay which opened which much fanfare in the spring of 2017.

The Club has 19 holes which gives them the flexibility of being able to take a hole out of play while doing works and improvements to other holes all the while always keeping 18 great holes open for play.

Stage 2 involved building three new greens, the 9th, 18th and practice Putting Green just next to the Clubhouse.  The work took approximately six months to complete and the members and guests were able to watch the works develop with a front row seat from the clubhouse!

In early May 2019 the 18th and Putting Green complex opened to great delight of the Club members with the 9th opening in spring once the new tee complex has been completed.  The new par 5, 18th hole now has a much larger green surrounded by extensive but fair bunkering which is much more receptive to approach shots than the old green. The giant “Himalayas” style putting green is truly magnificent and the large mounds in the design have created a wonderful putting experience with each of the 9 holes totally different in length and borrow.

A new Outdoor Terrace Area complements the greens complex perfectly and is the buzzing social hub of the Club.  There really is no better place to spend a few hours enjoying the facilities and refreshments available to members and non-members alike.

The Club was recently voted in the Top 85 of public access golf courses in Australia which is a fantastic achievement considering there are 1500 public access courses across the nation.  Mornington Golf Club is continually improving and the works that have been completed in the past two years are testament to the forward thinking and pro active Board and Management at the Club.  We are looking forward to watching the Club continue to progress and grow its membership in the coming years.
