No luxury golf course to be built in Spencerville
Two large blocks of rural land north of Christchurch at Spencerville formerly intended to be a luxury golf course are being sold in two mortgagee tenders.
Real estate agencies JLL and Colliers International are acting on instructions from First Mortgage Trust and the original property owners to sell the 64 hectares and 92ha respectively.
The blocks – bounded on one side by the Styx River – had been earmarked by Young Hwan (Thomas) Na, who told the Overseas Investment Office in 2009 he was spending $16.8 million buying the properties to develop Whisper Creek Golf Resort.
The 64ha property at 242 Spencerville Rd contains two dwellings, and the 92ha property at 165 Turners Rd has three houses on it.
The would-be resort was previously described as being in the style of Clearwater north of Christchurch at Belfast, or Millbrook at Arrowtown.
The properties are between Spencerville Rd and Turners Rd, 8 kilometres from Christchurch and zoned for development into 4ha lifestyle blocks. The larger property is zoned for a large development of a golf resort
The 64ha property is for sale by international tender closing July 13 and the 92ha property will go to auction on June 22.
