Ogilvy Clayton Dig in at Bonnie Doon Golf Club

POSTED ON May 8, 2012 @ 10:00 am

Bonnie Doon Golf Club, in conjunction with the design team of Ogilvy Clayton, commenced construction on Stage One of the club’s Masterplan on Thursday 5th May.The fence around stage one was erected and some of the remaining greens were given to both Botany and Bexley Golf Clubs.New signage was installed for the 15 hole course and all was off to a good start. The first step in any major course redevelopment is the preparation of the land to make way for the changes ahead. This is especially important for our new 5th & 6th holes, which are being built on a previously unused tract of land. Sand has been trucked in on this section of the new course for the past 3 months, and will continue to be for one more month. It is important that the look, feel and drainage of these two new holes are consistent with the rest of our course.The first major works on the old holes has been the removal of approximately 150 trees from the site, the majority of which were exotic species were not well suited to our site. Here we see the old 4th hole’s greenside trees being taken out to reveal the tee shot from the new 9th hole. Revegetation plans have been prepared in close consultation with the Department of Environment and Climate Change and Botany Council, and involve extensive plantings of native trees and Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub.Members of the board and the design team from Ogilvy Clayton came out to inspect the progress of the first few days work on Tuesday May10th. The Ogilvy Clayton team, made up of 2006 US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy, former European Tour player Michael Clayton and associates Mike Cocking and Ashley Mead, were engaged by Bonnie Doon in 2010 to develop a Masterplan for the whole course which, once completed, will re-establish the course as one of the best in NSW.For more information follow us on Twitter, Facebook and our websitewww.bdgc.com.au.See related video and story;
