WHETHER you putt on a daily basis or battle your mates on the course, Thornleigh Golf Centre is in search of the minigolf champion – and it could be you.

Preparing to change the face of mini-golf forever when it stages “the biggest putting championship in history”, Thornleigh Golf Centre is about to hold the first Australian Open Mini-Golf Championship on November 6.

Thornleigh Golf Centre business administration manager Sara Gilchrist said registrations are limited to the first 400 entries.

“The event will feature a seeded draw for the 30 most acclaimed entrants, such as Australian Open winners, Rodger Davis, Peter Lonard and Peter Fowler, who all grew up in the Northern Districts, Ms Gilchrist said.

“Another 120 players will qualify for the final after 72 holes stroke play at 1pm.

“The final field will be cut after 36 holes, with the top 50 players going through for the final 36 holes.”

But competitors better star practising if they want to get their hands on some of the $20,000 prize money, because Australia’s Mini Golf Hole-in-One world record holder Allan Cox is predicted to be a challenge when he takes to the course.
