Tom Doak to redesign Concord GC
World-renown course architect Tom Doak and the Renaissance Golf Design team have been appointed to upgrade Concord golf course in Sydney after the inner west Club’s members voted overwhelmingly in favour of a proposal to upgrade the historic18-hole layout.
Doak, one of the game’s leading architects, has designed many highly regarded layouts ranked in the World’s Top 100 including Barnbougle Dunes in Tasmania, Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand and Pacific Dunes in the United States. Concord will be the first significant redesign project that Tom and his US-based team have undertaken in New South Wales.
Concord Golf Club’s Course Committee Chairman Ross Haron said “Given their worldwide success in creating strategically designed courses that are both challenging for the better player yet create options for the average golfer, we believe that Tom Doak and his Renaissance Golf Design team will significantly improve Concord for our members and provide the Club with a key point of difference in the Sydney golf club marketplace.”
The upgrade works will be led by Renaissance’s Senior Design Associate Brian Slawnik with Doak overseeing the shaping of all 18 greens at critical times during the construction process.
The works will begin in September 2017 and are planned for completion by March 2018.
