Improve Your Long Game – Cancer Council NSW
Improve Your Long Game is a campaign encouraging NSW golfers to use sun protection and reduce their risk of skin cancer. It is partly funded by Cancer Institute NSW over the next three years.
In NSW, men’s risk of skin cancer increases from the age of 40. Over the age of 50, men are twice as likely to develop melanoma and three times as likely to die from it as women of a similar age.
It’s important to have a sun protection routine in place, no matter your age, as it’s not too late to start protecting your skin and reducing your risk of skin cancer.
It’s especially important to use sun protection if you’re a golfer as you will have higher levels of sun exposure. Here’s why:
- Long periods spent in the sun during peak UV times (11am – 3pm)
- Additional reflected UV from grass, sand and water
- Limited shaded areas on the course
- Less emphasis on sun protection, compared to cricketers with their zinc, wrap-around sunnies and broad-brim hats.
You can reduce your sun exposure with our tailored sun protection tips for golfers. Add these into your golf day and you’ll be well on your way to improving your long game and reducing your skin cancer risk.
