A New Chapter for Cumberland Golf Club: $160 Million Retirement Community Launched

POSTED ON October 3, 2025 @ 3:18 pm

A significant transformation is underway at Cumberland Country Golf Club, which has partnered with community infrastructure specialist Pariter (a division of Plenary) to launch a million-dollar retirement community venture.

This major project is set to deliver a unique lifestyle option for seniors in Sydney’s southwest, combining active retirement living with the sought-after setting of a golf course. The development, expected to attract strong buyer interest, will feature the Salus Living brand.

Redefining Golf Course Living

The development includes a 228-apartment retirement community and a comprehensive overhaul of the club’s facilities. The first homes are now available for sale, offering a mix of two and three-bedroom residences, including larger three-bedroom penthouses.

Residents will have access to luxury wellness facilities, including:

  • An indoor heated pool
  • A fully-equipped fitness centre
  • A salon/barber
  • Allied health treatment rooms
  • An onsite café with golf course views
  • An alfresco barbecue area

The project also involves a complete rebuild of the club’s main building. The new, three-level clubhouse will offer modern amenities, including dining facilities for both club members and residents, all while aiming to minimise disruption to the current membership. The 18-hole course layout will also be upgraded.

Visionary Partnership and Market Confidence

Pariter CEO Tom Roche described the sales launch as an exciting milestone, calling it a “visionary partnership” with the golf club. He highlighted the blend of active retirement living, green open spaces, and the social hub of the club as a key attraction for retirees, noting that the Salus Living brand aligns with the club’s values by delivering “an enriched community with a deep sense of connection.”

The project fills a gap in the local market. Rhys Morgan, who heads up the sales team for Salus Cumberland, stated that this is a unique offering in the region for seniors looking for an active lifestyle. He added, “Projects that are located on golf courses with expansive green views are in high demand, and one in the heart of Sydney is rare.”

Cumberland Country Golf Club President Denis Clifford echoed the sentiment, calling the launch an “important milestone in the process of building a new community for residents and golf members.”

Construction is planned to begin in mid-2026. The development is set to generate around 190 jobs during the construction phase and 80 ongoing operational positions once completed.
