Aussie Leighton Walker to host new UK Golf Management Podcast

Adelaide native Leighton Walker will, together with another top name in club management, Eddie Bullock of Eddie Bullock Golf Consulting, launch Golf Club Talk UK – the first podcast dedicated to the business of running a golf club in the United Kingdom.

The show is aimed at people working in the golf industry and who govern clubs, and will air for the first time on Wednesday October 31. The show will provide best practices and take a positive and forward thinking look at where golf clubs are heading in the United Kingdom.

Leighton who started his golf at the age of 12 at a nine hole course in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, then moved on to Glenelg Golf Club at the age of 16 where he competed in the club’s successful Penant team and also played in many events such as the Australian Amateur Championships and several state amateur championships.

Moving into his twenties, Leighton realised that Golf wasn’t going to pay the bills and followed a path into retail management before landing his first Golf Management role at his original home club of Penfield where he spent two years from 2002-2004. This was a foot in the door to the industry and a taste of what was to come. This time at Penfield included an active membership with the GMA and attending the GMA Conference in Glenelg in 2003.

Life then took Leighton to the UK where he has forged a strong career since and is currently in the thick of it as general manager of Burford Golf Club in Oxfordshire.. Perhaps a return to Australia is on the cards in some shape or form down the track but for now the UK is home and Leighton brings an Aussie slant to the UK Golf industry and this will be evident in the show.

In the podcast, Leighton and his co-host will deliver a new way of looking at Golf Club life in the UK, featuring the latest available news and information. The radio duo will interview the people that make things happen in the industry and will also provide listeners with reviews of clubs that are at the top of their game.

Scheduled guests include, Rob Hill of Global Golf Advisors, Karen Drake of Burnham and Berrow Golf Club and many more.

Leighton has previously appeared on Private Club Radio and he also serves on the London and Home Counties Board of the Club Manager’s Association of Europe.
