Morris Joins The R&A to Advance Sustainable Agronomy in Asia-Pacific

POSTED ON August 6, 2025 @ 9:25 am

The R&A has announced the appointment of renowned turfgrass expert Australian Dr. Brett Morris to its Sustainable Agronomy team in the Asia-Pacific region, effective 1 August 2025.

With over three decades of experience across turf science, course management, and research, Dr. Morris brings a rare blend of practical and scientific expertise to the role. He joins The R&A from Syngenta Professional Solutions, where he served as Technical Services Manager for Australia and New Zealand.

Dr. Morris’s diverse career includes 15 years as a Golf Course Superintendent at high-profile venues in Australia, Fiji, and Indonesia, as well as agronomic consultancy roles across Australia’s Top 100-ranked courses, major racetracks, and international stadiums. He also holds a PhD in Turfgrass Science and Breeding and is widely respected for his work developing innovative turf technologies.

“Brett’s blend of practical expertise and scientific rigour aligns perfectly with our mission to promote sustainable golf course management,” said Chris Gray, Head of Sustainable Golf & Agronomy – Asia-Pacific. “His deep understanding of agronomic challenges in the region will be invaluable as we support courses in balancing environmental stewardship with high-quality playing conditions.”

Dr. Morris said he’s excited to contribute to the region’s sustainable golf future:
“Joining The R&A represents an exciting opportunity to scale sustainable practices that benefit both the game and the environment. I look forward to working with stakeholders across Asia-Pacific to implement solutions that enhance turf health, conserve resources, and support the long-term viability of golf.”

This strategic appointment underscores The R&A’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and its support of golf’s global development, particularly across emerging and climate-sensitive regions.
