New Zealand’s premier golf event has secured a major boost as Rebel Sport officially extended its sponsorship of the New Zealand Open, continuing a partnership that has spanned over a decade.

The announcement comes as the tournament prepares for its 105th edition, solidifying the relationship between the country’s flagship golf event and one of its most recognizable sporting retailers. Rebel Sport, part of the Briscoe Group, has been a fixture of the New Zealand golfing landscape since 2012, initially supporting the NZ PGA Championships before joining the New Zealand Open in 2014.

A Decade of Growth

The partnership renewal arrives at a high point for the sport. Golf is currently experiencing a surge in domestic popularity, with record participation levels across junior and women’s demographics.

John Hart, Chairman of the New Zealand Open, noted that Rebel Sport’s decade-long commitment has been instrumental in the tournament’s evolution.

“Rebel Sport have been with us for more than a decade, and their ongoing support really makes a difference,” Hart said. “Their unwavering commitment shows that we are delivering both on and off the fairways for players, fans, and partners alike.”

More Than Just a Sponsorship

For the Briscoe Group, the extension is a strategic move to align with the “grassroots momentum” currently sweeping the game. Rod Duke, Managing Director and Deputy Chairman of the Briscoe Group, emphasized that the 2026 tournament will mark their 11th year of support.

“For us, this is more than a sponsorship—it’s about being part of something that inspires players of all ages to get out, play, and enjoy the game,” Duke said.

Tournament Impact

Since Rebel Sport joined the roster in 2014, the New Zealand Open has seen:

  • Increased Attendance: Growing crowds at the Queenstown-based event.
  • Greater Reach: Enhanced international broadcast opportunities.
  • Talent Pipeline: A consistent platform for both rising stars and established Kiwi pros to compete on the world stage.

As the tournament continues to showcase Queenstown and New Zealand to a global audience, this partnership ensures the event remains a cornerstone of the international golfing calendar.
