Catalina Club Unveils Ambitious Clubhouse and Golf Course Redevelopment Plan
The Catalina Club, a cornerstone of the Batemans Bay community since 1920, has announced a comprehensive redevelopment plan aimed at modernizing its facilities and enhancing the golfing experience for members and visitors alike. This initiative is part of the club’s long-term vision to future-proof its amenities and maintain its status as a premier destination for golf and social engagement.
A Vision for the Future
Over the past few years, the Catalina Club has been diligently working on plans to upgrade its infrastructure. The latest phase focuses on improving clubhouse functionality, inclusivity, and hospitality offerings. “We look to modernize our facilities for the next generation of members,” said Cathie Flynn, President of the Catalina Club. General Manager Guy Chapman added, “Improving the clubhouse functionality, inclusivity, and hospitality offering is key to our future success.
Clubhouse Enhancements
The clubhouse refurbishment includes a complete overhaul of the reception area, restaurant, main lounge, café, and sports bar. A new Outdoor Entertainment Complex is also in the works, featuring a 20-bay driving range and a licensed food and beverage court. These upgrades aim to create a more welcoming and versatile environment for members and guests.
Golf Wing and Course Developments
The Golf Wing will see the addition of a dedicated golfers’ entrance, an expanded golf shop, and improved facilities such as restrooms, showers, and bag storage. The golf course itself is set to undergo significant changes, including the addition of a state-of-the-art driving range and a comprehensive redevelopment to enhance playability and sustainability. “Future-proofing the club and course will enhance playability and longer-term sustainability,” noted Assistant General Manager Mitchel Judd
Architectural Expertise
The redevelopment project is being led by renowned golf course architect Harley Kruse, in collaboration with Mike Clayton and Lukas Michel. Kruse brings a wealth of experience from his previous work with Greg Norman Golf Course Design and his own firm, Kruse Golf. Clayton, a former professional golfer and respected architect, and Michel, a rising star in golf course design, round out the expert team guiding the Catalina Club’s transformation.
Honoring a Rich History
The Catalina Club’s history is deeply rooted in community and sporting excellence. From its humble beginnings in 1920, the club has grown into a 27-hole championship course. Notable figures such as Athol and Claude Manns played pivotal roles in the course’s development. The club also boasts a legacy of golfing heroes, including Charles Grey, who won the NSW Open in 1931, and a young Greg Norman, who secured his first tournament purse at Catalina during the 1974 South Coast Open.
Community Engagement and Feedback
The Catalina Club is committed to involving its members in the redevelopment process. Opportunities for member feedback and engagement are being provided to ensure that the upgrades align with the needs and expectations of the club’s community. “The masterplan will enhance our standing as a premier destination for golf and for all the social activities that surround it,” said Director of Golf Rodney Booth.
Looking Ahead
As the Catalina Club embarks on this ambitious redevelopment journey, it remains dedicated to preserving its storied past while embracing a dynamic future. The planned enhancements are set to elevate the club’s offerings, ensuring that it continues to serve as a vibrant hub for golf enthusiasts and the broader community for generations to come.
