Clublinks Appointed to Manage Bundha Sports Centre in Fitzroy Gasworks
The Bundha Sports Centre, a new world-class facility in Melbourne’s iconic Fitzroy Gasworks precinct, is set to be operated by experienced venue manager Clublinks under a ground-breaking long-term agreement. This partnership is designed to ensure the community can benefit from the state-of-the-art facility for decades to come.
Clublinks, known for its strong venue management capabilities, already operates several major sports venues across Australia, including the redeveloped Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre and Narrandjeri Stadium in Darebin.
A Model for Community Investment
The long-term management agreement, a collaboration between Sport and Recreation Victoria and the Department of Education, will leverage Clublinks’ expertise not just for daily operations, but also to manage the centre’s long-term maintenance and asset renewal programs.
Crucially, the partnership with Sport and Recreation Victoria includes a commitment from Clublinks to reinvest a portion of the centre’s profits. This funding will be used to secure access for a range of programs and initiatives, ensuring that even more community members can enjoy the benefits of physical activity and sport.
Immediate Next Steps
As Clublinks prepares the centre for its formal opening, they will soon launch an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. This EOI will invite local sports clubs and associations to secure access to the centre’s top-tier facilities for their teams, programs, and competitions. The appointment of Clublinks signifies that more people will be able to take advantage of this new vertical sports centre to grow their community presence.
The facility itself was delivered by Development Victoria through a significant investment: $49.5 million from the Victorian Government, complemented by a $5 million contribution from Yarra City Council.
Facility Highlights
The vertical Bundha Sports Centre directly addresses the need for indoor sports and fitness facilities in Melbourne’s inner north. The centre boasts:
- Four competition-standard courts for basketball, netball, and volleyball.
- A multi-purpose futsal court.
- A large, modern gymnasium.
- A cafe and lounge area, along with other community spaces.
Anthony Lawrence, CEO of Clublinks, expressed his enthusiasm for the new venture: “Clublinks is delighted to be given the opportunity to deliver brilliant customer experiences that align with the quality of the Bundha Sports Centre.”
He added, “We are excited to facilitate opportunities for the community to participate in sport, recreation and fitness at this beautiful facility. While Bundha is primarily a sports centre, it will deliver wonderful connection, unity and community benefit to Melbourne’s inner north.”
