Conditional planning Underway for $19m upgrades at Fremantle Golf Course

Council recommends conditional planning approval for $19 million upgrades at Fremantle’s public golf course

A driving range hailed by its proponents as the “first of its kind” in Australia could enable golfers to tee off until midnight at Fremantle Golf Course from a two-storey facility.

An updated application revealed the driving range, to be run by Canadian company LaunchPad Golf, hopes to open 7am to 11pm Sundays to Wednesdays and 7am to midnight Thursdays to Saturdays.

The $19 million makeover set for Fremantle’s public golf course proposed by Belgravia Leisure in 2024 is currently awaiting approval from the WA Planning Commission, with hopes it can be complete by 2026.

An amended plan went before the City of Fremantle council this week which aimed to address community feedback, including a desire to preserve existing trees when creating additional car parking space, and that pedestrian paths be more defined.

But the LaunchPad driving range remains as previously presented, with 40 tee booths spread across two levels, a pro shop, food and beverage facilities on both levels and showers.

As well as being a practice facility, where ball tracking and monitoring technology feeds data back to screens in each driving range bay for players to see and analyse their shots, LaunchPad at Fremantle public golf course would offer interactive entertainment-based gameplay in which golfers aim for large colourful targets.

The City of Fremantle is contributing $3.2m of grant funding to the new golf course works.

It has said the public golf course will continue to offer its existing 10-bay driving range and course throughout construction.

Belgravia Leisure also operates the recently redeveloped East Fremantle Community Park.
