Dengate Named President of WPGA Tour of Australasia Following James’ Resignation
AUSTRALASIA – The WPGA Tour of Australasia has appointed Vice-President Jessica Dengate as its new President. Dengate takes over the role following the resignation of Nicole James, who is stepping down due to expanding family care responsibilities and existing commitments within the golf industry.
Dengate, a PGA Member and former professional tour player, has served on the WPGA Tour Board as Vice-President since 2018. Following a decision by the Board, she will serve out the remainder of James’ presidential term on a permanent basis. Further appointments to the WPGA Tour of Australasia Board will be announced in due course.
James Steps Down to Balance Career and Family
Nicole James joined the Board as a Director in 2020 and was named President after the WPGA Tour’s Annual General Meeting earlier this year.
In explaining her decision to step down, James cited the need to manage her full-time position as General Manager of Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club, her seat on the PGA of Australia’s Vocational Members Council, and external family obligations.

“I have always approached my role with a genuine commitment to our members and to creating more opportunities for women in professional golf. I remain incredibly passionate about the WPGA Tour, its members and the role we can play in continuing to grow the game,” James said.
“At this point, however, I need to balance that commitment with the demands of my full-time role as General Manager of Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club, my responsibilities on the PGA of Australia’s Vocational Members Council and important family care commitments outside of work.“ “I have come to the conclusion that I cannot give the role of President the time and energy I believe it deserves.“ “Thank you again for the trust and support you have shown me. I look forward to continuing to contribute to golf and our industry in the other roles I am fortunate to hold.” |
Dengate Responds to Leadership Appointment
Upon accepting the presidency, Dengate expressed gratitude for James’ service to the organization and outlined her focus moving forward alongside the executive team.
