Facilitated by Golf Australia, a growing network of metropolitan, regional, and rural venues are exchanging equipment, turf expertise, and surplus furniture to ensure neighboring facilities thrive.

For regional hubs where operating budgets are tight, these cooperative connections serve as a vital lifeline. “Clubs may be competing on the course, but there is a real willingness to come together, support each other and see golf thrive in their local communities,” noted Monique de Haas, Golf Australia Relationship Coordinator for North Queensland.

Grassroots Greens Solutions

The power of this network is particularly clear in Far North Queensland, where turf innovations are being passed down the line:

• Gordonvale & Millaa Millaa: After overcoming severe maintenance issues by cultivating a native grass variety suited to tropical conditions, Gordonvale Golf Club hosted Millaa Millaa Golf Club, donating 700 turf plugs and teaching their team how to install them.
• Broader Regional Aid: El Arish Country Club contributed additional native turf to Millaa Millaa, while Cairns Golf Club reconditioned mower equipment, and Atherton Golf Club loaned machinery for course repairs.

Paying It Forward Off the Course

The spirit of generosity extends well beyond turf management, helping smaller facilities upgrade their venues without breaking the bank:

• Surfers Paradise to Sandgate: Surfers Paradise Golf Club donated 40 outdoor chairs to Sandgate Golf Club, transforming their member seating area. Surfers Paradise General Manager Liam Sweeney noted the gesture was a chance to “pay it forward” after benefiting from past industry support.
• Headland to Baralaba: Headland Golf Club shipped a full truckload of tables and chairs to Baralaba Golf Club, allowing the small, volunteer-run club to completely furnish its newly built deck with matching decor.

With golf experiencing a major surge in participation nationwide, these joint initiatives highlight a unifying truth across the state: while venues remain competitive on the leaderboard, the broader golf community prospers when clubs work together to help each other succeed.
