Jack’s Point Golf Course internationally recognised for sustainability
Jack’s Point Golf Course located just outside of Queenstown, NZ, has been recognised for its preservation of the natural landscape at the 19th annual IAGTO Awards in Slovenia last week.
The renowned course received the prestigious IAGTO Nature protection award, staged in association with the Golf Environment Organization (GEO).
Jack’s Point Golf General Manager John Griffin told www.ausleisure.com.au the team were thrilled to be recognised for their long-term commitment to sustainability and nature protection.
“We are delighted to have achieved this international recognition for our ongoing work to preserve our unique natural environment at Jack’s Point.
“Simon Forshaw, Jack’s Point Course Superintendent has been instrumental in leading the team’s sustainability and nature protection initiatives since the start of the course build in 2005. It is very much thanks to his efforts that we are privileged to have received this award today.”
Committed to the preservation of the environment, the breath-taking course has been designed around the natural landscape with minimal excavation. Earlier this year the course, through Forshaw’s initiatives, also became GEO Environment Certified, endorsed by GEO Foundation and the R&A and European Tour, for championing sustainability in golf and through golf.
The IAGTO Awards, held annually by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators since 2000, was held at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre in Slovenia.
The award showcase the best golf destinations and resorts around the world as voted for by the world’s golf tour operators and golf travel writers.
