JOB: Assistant General Manager – Long Reef Golf Club

POSTED ON August 19, 2026 @ 2:00 pm

Long Reef Golf Club | Sydney’s Northern Beaches

A unique opportunity to work across the business, contribute to major projects and develop towards General Management.

Long Reef Golf Club is looking for an ambitious Assistant General Manager to join our Senior Management Team and play a key role in the next chapter of one of Sydney’s most unique golf and hospitality venues.

This position has a strong track record as a development role. Our current Assistant General Manager is departing Long Reef to take up a General Manager position at one of Sydney’s Group One private golf clubs.

We are now looking for the next person who wants to follow their own pathway towards senior club management.

This isn’t just a golf club!

Long Reef is a Member golf club, public golf facility, hospitality venue, wedding and events destination, retail business and community asset, all operating from one of Sydney’s most spectacular coastal locations.

The Club incorporates:

  • Around 1,000 playing Golf Members and more than 3,000 House Members
  • Approximately 68,000 rounds of golf each year
  • A busy Golf Shop and retail operation
  • A seven day café, bar and hospitality business open to Members and the public
  • Around 100 weddings annually, as well as functions and conferences
  • Corporate and charity golf days
  • Major course improvement and capital works programs
  • Significant long-term strategic projects shaping the future of the Club

Our vision is to be the best beachside destination offering exceptional golf and hospitality experiences for our Members and community.

The opportunity

This role is designed for someone who wants exposure to how an entire club operates, not just one department.

You will work closely with the General Manager, Board, Senior Management Team and key committees across golf operations, membership, people management, administration, governance, financial performance, events, projects and Member experience.

On any given week you could be working on a major golf event, reviewing operational performance, preparing a Board paper, managing staff, dealing with Members, helping develop the annual budget, contributing to a capital project or working with the GM on one of the Club’s major strategic priorities.

There is plenty happening at Long Reef, and that is exactly what makes the role such a strong development opportunity.

While the position has particular responsibility across Golf Operations, Membership and Administration, the successful candidate will be encouraged to understand and contribute to every part of the business.

What you’ll be responsible for

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will:

  • Assist with the day-to-day management of the Club and its operations.
  • Provide leadership and support to key operational teams, with particular oversight across Golf Operations and Administration.
  • Work closely with the Director of Golf, Course Superintendent and other department managers.
  • Manage the planning and delivery of corporate and charity golf events.
  • Work with the Club Captain and Golf Committee on the annual golf program, major events and competition experience.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Member and guest experience.
  • Build strong relationships with Members and maintain a visible presence around the Club.
  • Assist the General Manager with Board and committee meetings, governance matters and strategic projects.
  • Contribute to annual budgeting, business planning and operational performance.
  • Support people management, WHS and other organisational responsibilities.
  • Become involved in capital works, facility improvements and major projects.
  • Act as General Manager when required.

Importantly, we do not expect the successful candidate to already know everything.

We are looking for someone with a strong foundation who is curious, capable and wants to learn how to run a successful club.

Who we’re looking for

You may already be working in club management, golf operations, hospitality or another part of the golf industry and wondering what the next step looks like.

You will ideally bring:

  • Strong knowledge of golf and golf club operations.
  • Experience leading people and taking responsibility for outcomes.
  • A willingness to be hands on when required.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Confidence dealing with Members, staff and stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in understanding the financial drivers of a club.
  • Strong technology and administration skills with a keen interest in advancing business through the implementation of AI.
  • An ability to move comfortably between operational detail and bigger picture thinking.
  • A genuine ambition to progress your career in club management.

Experience with MiClub Golf, MiMembership, SwiftPOS and MYOB or similar club management systems would be advantageous but is not essential.

Club life does not operate Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. The role will include some weekend work, major events and meetings outside standard business hours. In return, we aim to provide flexibility and a working environment where people enjoy coming to work.

What’s in it for you?

Beyond working from one of the best office locations in Sydney, the successful candidate will receive:

  • An attractive remuneration package based on experience.
  • Five weeks annual leave.
  • Staff golf membership.
  • Golf Management Australia membership and industry development opportunities.
  • Professional development, networking and exposure to the broader club industry.
  • Staff meals and Club benefits.
  • Opportunities to play golf with Members.
  • Direct exposure to the General Manager, Board and major strategic decision-making.
  • Most importantly, an opportunity to build the experience required to take the next step towards becoming a General Manager in your own right.
