JOB: Course Superintendent – Kooindah Waters Golf Club

The Course

Located on the New South Wales beautiful Central Coast, Kooindah Waters is an immaculate 6,083 metre 18-hole par 72 championship golf course designed by Ross Watson and champion Australian golfer Craig Parry. Built in 2006 on natural wetlands in a stunning bushland setting, Kooindah Waters boasts some amazing wildlife including hundreds of species of birds, Windsor green fairways, tees and rough with Greens being G2/A1-A4.

The Golf facility has 50,000 rounds played per year made up of 700 golfing members, tour groups, holidayers and regular corporate golf days being held each week.

Kooindah Waters Pty Ltd is a privately owned facility, comprising a 4.5-star Mercure resort and golf course. The Golf Club’s operation is under the direction of a General Manager and Owner’s representative.

The role

Kooindah Waters is now seeking to fill the role of Course Superintendent. The role is entrusted with the development and management of the golf course with the following key responsibilities.

  • Responsibility for the delivery of the golf course and surrounding grounds (including resort & common areas) to meet the standards as set down by Management and Owner.
  • To implement the maintenance programs that meet the sustainability requirements and agreed budgets.
  • Provide expert advice, solutions, and programs to ensure the continuous improvement of the golf course and surrounding environment.
  • Assist with recruitment and training of appropriate staff.
  • The role requires continuous education and self-improvement. Support is given to attend the annual ASTMA National Conference and other state workshop opportunities.
  • Supervise the servicing and repair of turfgrass maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Keep appropriate records pertaining to maintenance, WHS, and Environmental compliance.
  • The management of all course Staff and ensuring they are trained to carry out duties and hold appropriate licenses and or certificates as required by local, state, and federal laws.

Proven Skills in the following

  • Planning, organising, and directing the daily maintenance of a high-quality resort golf course inclusive of all playing surfaces, bunkers, landscapes, and on-course accessories.
  • Supervising the efficient operation of equipment servicing, scheduling, and repair shop.
  • Supervising the efficient operation of the pump and irrigation system including irrigation application and scheduling. (NEW Toro automated irrigation system has recently been installed)
  • Managing a conforming WHS and EMS system and liaising with Council’s Biosecurity officer.
  • Preparing and managing the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans in conjunction with club management.
  • Responsible for recruitment and all staffing matters with oversight from club management.
  • Overseeing capital programs determined by ownership and club management.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Certificate IV in Horticulture or similar degree from a university in Sports turf Management; or five years experience in a similar role and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
