JOB: Executive Manager – New South Wales Golf Club
About the Club
Ranked in the top 50 golf courses in the world, The New South Wales Golf Club is a private member club situated on the northern headland of historic Botany Bay, approximately 30 minutes drive from Sydney’s CBD. Located course it is flanked by the rugged cliffs of Henry Head and the prominent headland of Cape Banks.
The Club is a links-style golf course designed by Alister MacKenzie in December 1926 and has a very proud history of providing its 1200 Members and their guests with first class facilities and service to ensure an outstanding experience.
The Club will celebrate its centenary in 2028 and a range of projects, including a golf course renovation, and associated fundraising initiatives, which are planned to be completed prior to this landmark year, are in progress.
About the role
Reporting to the President and working with the Board, the Club is looking for an inspirational Executive Manager to lead the team. Key responsibilities:
- Manage the Club in accordance with the Strategic and Operating Plans agreed by the Board.
- Act as Secretary to the Club in accordance with the requirements of the Corporations Act and the Registered Clubs Act and other legislative requirements, and as required by the President and the Board.
- Financial responsibility for the Club’s operations including driving revenue, cost control, labour effectiveness and IT systems, risk management and controls.
- Support, train, recruit and manage staff across key functions of Administration, Membership, Food and Beverage/House, Finance, Golf Operations and House, ensuring a team that shows a strong service orientation, initiative, responsibility and accountability.
- Interact with Members and ensure a high level of visibility and responsiveness to Members.
- Manage communications and relationships with all key stakeholders (Members, guests, Board of Directors, National Parks, Contractors, staff, industry colleagues, local council, media etc).
- Implement plans to improve the capability and execution of marketing programmes to increase the profile and yield of Corporate Golf days and, when appropriate, International and local visitors.
- Involvement in Club’s capital works projects and management of associated operational disruption.
Skills and experience
Applicants should ideally have a background in golf club, sporting organization or hospitality management, particularly:
- A passion for and a proven track record of delivering operational excellence.
- The capability to lead and inspire a team across multiple departments.
- The confidence and personality to engage at a high level with members, guests and other stakeholders.
- The experience to contribute towards and to drive the strategic direction of the Club.
- A comprehensive knowledge of the financial function of a sporting and/or hospitality operation.
- An understanding of the statutory and regulatory aspects which govern the club and hospitality industry.
