JOB: General Manager – Royal Hobart Golf Club
The Club
Royal Hobart is recognized as Tasmania’s premier members’ Club and championship course, having hosted several major state and national events, including the 1971 Australian Open.
Located at Seven Mile Beach, 20 kilometres from Hobart, the Club features an 18-hole championship course, extensive practice facilities, a member base of 1000+ and a clubhouse with function seating for over 100 guests. The Club is an incorporated association focused on delivering a high-quality experience for its members.
The Role
The Club is seeking a dynamic, commercially minded leader for the role of General Manager.
Reporting to the Captain (Board Chair), you will lead sustainable revenue and profit growth through member-centric innovation and disciplined financial management. While maintaining the Club’s proud heritage and traditions, you will be responsible for identifying new market opportunities and driving business development initiatives to ensure long-term financial stability.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will be a motivated self-starter with a proven track record in creating successful commercial outcomes while respecting the unique culture or a member based organization.
Selection Criteria:
- Experience: A minimum of five years’ experience as a General Manager or Assistant GM within a golf club or comparable membership based organisation.
- Financial & Business Growth Skills: Proven ability to manage complex operations with tight financial constraints and execute opportunities for sustainable revenue growth.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely to a diverse audience.
- Leadership Style: An approachable and engaging style, with the confidence to make tough decisions and manage performance decisively.
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in Finance, Business, or Sports Management (or experience deemed high level).
